Make 3D models from Claude, ChatGPT or your code

Connect MakeSplat to your AI assistant and ask for a 3D model from your video. In about 10 minutes you get a photorealistic Gaussian splat and a textured 3D mesh, shown right in the chat. Developers can use the same MCP server from Claude Code and Cursor, or the REST API.

Free to connect. New accounts get 1.5 free credits, enough for a first 3D model with its mesh.

What it looks like

What the assistant does for you

  • Creates the scan and gives you an upload link. Claude Code can upload the video file itself.
  • Tells you the price and starts only with your OK.
  • Follows the processing, which takes about 10 minutes.
  • Shows the 3D model right in the chat: switch between Splat and Mesh, press Replay to fly the camera path again, or go Full screen.
  • Gives you the download links for the .ply splat and the .glb mesh.

Credits are bought on makesplat.com, never in the chat. The assistant can only spend them at the price you agreed to.

Connect to Claude

One click, on claude.ai and in the Claude desktop app. Then ask Claude for a 3D model from your video.

Connect to Claude (opens in a new tab)
  1. 1Click Connect to Claude. Claude opens Add custom connector with MakeSplat already filled in.
  2. 2Click Add.
  3. 3Click Connect, sign in to MakeSplat and click Allow.
  • Team and Enterprise plans: an Owner adds it in Organization settings > Connectors.
  • Claude's free plan allows one custom connector.

Prefer to add it by hand? In Claude, open Customize > Connectors, click Add custom connector and paste this URL:

https://makesplat.com/mcp

Connect to ChatGPT

ChatGPT has no one-click link yet. Adding MakeSplat takes about a minute:

  1. 1On chatgpt.com, open Plugins, click + and choose Add custom MCP server.
  2. 2Name it MakeSplat, paste https://makesplat.com/mcp as the server URL and choose OAuth.
  3. 3Tick “I understand and want to continue”, then click Create as a plugin.
  4. 4Click Connect, sign in to MakeSplat and allow access.
  5. 5In a new chat, type @, pick MakeSplat and ask for a 3D model from your video.

Server URL:

https://makesplat.com/mcp

Don't see Add custom MCP server? Turn on Developer mode in Settings, under Security and login, then try again.

Claude Code

Add MakeSplat with one command:

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http makesplat https://makesplat.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in. Claude Code can upload a video from your computer itself, so there is no upload page to open: just tell it which file to use.

Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients

For any other client, add a remote MCP server with this config. Clients that support OAuth open the MakeSplat sign-in the first time you use it.

mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "makesplat": { "url": "https://makesplat.com/mcp" }
  }
}

Client without OAuth? Send a MakeSplat API key as a bearer token instead. See how to connect with an API key.

Things to ask

  • “Make a 3D model from my video of this sneaker.”
  • “Turn my drone video of the house into a 3D model. How much will it cost?”
  • “I need a 3D mesh for Blender from my video of this statue.”
  • “Is my 3D model ready? Show it to me.”

The best videos circle the subject slowly for 30 to 60 seconds, in even light. See how to film a video for a 3D scan.

Prefer code? Use the REST API

The REST API does everything the website does: send a video, get a Gaussian splat (.ply) and a textured 3D mesh (.glb) back. Self-serve, no sales call, no GPU on your side.

  1. Reserve: POST /v1/scans returns a job_id and an upload_url.
  2. Upload: PUT your MP4 or MOV (up to 500 MB) to the upload_url.
  3. Start: POST /v1/scans/{job_id}/start. Credits are charged here. Add "mesh": true to the params for the .glb mesh (+0.5 credit).
  4. Poll and download: GET /v1/scans/{job_id} until status is done, then download ply_url and mesh.url.
curl
KEY=sk_live_...   # from your dashboard
API=https://api.makesplat.com

# 1. Reserve
curl -s -X POST $API/v1/scans -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY"
# {"job_id": "3f2c...", "upload_url": "https://...", ...}

# 2. Upload (signed URL, no auth header)
curl -X PUT --upload-file scene.mp4 "<upload_url>"

# 3. Start: Standard with the 3D mesh (1.5 credits)
curl -s -X POST $API/v1/scans/<job_id>/start \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"params": {"mesh": true}}'

# 4. Poll until "done", then download ply_url and mesh.url
curl -s $API/v1/scans/<job_id> -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY"

Draft 0.6, Standard 1.0, High 1.6 and Maximum 3.4 credits. The mesh adds 0.5 to any of them, and a failed mesh refunds its 0.5 automatically.

Frequently asked questions

›What is the MakeSplat MCP server?

It is how AI assistants use MakeSplat. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code use to connect to outside tools. Once MakeSplat is connected, your assistant can check your credits, create a 3D scan from your video, start it at the price you agreed to, follow the processing and hand you the finished 3D model: a Gaussian splat (.ply) and, if you ask, a textured 3D mesh (.glb). The server URL is https://makesplat.com/mcp. Full details are in the MCP server docs.

›Does connecting MakeSplat cost anything?

No. Connecting is free and creating a scan is free. Credits are only used when processing starts, at the price you agreed to: a Standard model costs 1 credit and the 3D mesh adds 0.5. New accounts get 1.5 free credits, enough for a first 3D model with its mesh. Credits are bought on makesplat.com, never inside the chat, and failed scans are refunded automatically. See the credit packs.

›Which apps work with the MakeSplat MCP server?

Claude (on claude.ai and in the desktop app), ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients that support remote servers. Claude and ChatGPT show the finished 3D model right in the chat. Without an AI assistant, use the website or the REST API.

›Is my video private?

Uploaded videos are deleted automatically within 7 days. Your splats and meshes are kept until you delete them or close your account. We do not sell your data, run ads or use your content to train AI models. When you use MakeSplat from an AI assistant, we receive only the assistant's requests, never your conversation, and the assistant never gets your MakeSplat password. Details are in our privacy policy.

Every tool, setting and option is in the MakeSplat MCP server reference.
